  • Béla Fleck, perhaps the world’s premier banjo player, makes his Canadian orchestral debut performing the Canadian premiere of his Concerto for Banjo (2011) on his vintage 1937 mahogany Gibson Mastertone. Dedicated to pioneering banjo virtuoso Earl Scruggs, he notes that his goal was to “explore the new possibilities of the banjo as a member of the orchestra, while respecting its roots in bluegrass and jazz.” Following intermission, a rare solo banjo recital.

  • Canadian superstar soprano Measha Brueggergosman brings her vibrant personality and “superb voice capable of just about everything” (Miami Herald) to the Winspear Centre stage for a very special gala performance with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
